What are composite fire doors made of?

Conventional fire doors have cores that are either constructed from timber or metal, whereas composite fire doors have fire-proof cores that are made from tougher yet lighter fire-resistant materials; which makes the door easier to open when a swift escape is necessary. Common composite fire door core materials consist of polyurethane, recycled materials, and PVC plastic.

Composite fire doors are also installed with seals that wrap around the doors’ edges. These seals are commonly made from an intumescent material that swells up when there is excessive heat, making it difficult for any smoke to get through the gaps between the door and the frame – making them a far superior choice to standard fire doors.

Fire Door Certifications

Tested up to 885 degrees Celsius

Our dual-certified composite fire doors can withstand fire exposure up to 885 degrees on both sides. The dual certification is an audited scheme that guarantees our fire doors meet both the rigorous fire safety requirements and enhanced PAS24:2016 security standards (Secured by Design). This means the doors are regularly taken from production and checked by an external auditor to ensure they still meet the standards required.
